The guidance from Intel says microcode updates have been released for Clarkdale, Lynnfield, and Gulftown processors. But the development of microcode for Bloomfield processors has been stopped for some reason.

That's what I thought. Bloomfield are the original Core Ix CPUs, so I was wondering how one could make the statement that the original Core Ix CPUs had updated microcode.

Of course, I now realize that your statement was probably including the Core2 duo and Core2 Quad CPUs, as I was only considering Core Ix CPUs as first generation.

Interestingly enough, I have the Bloomfield 965 EE Products formerly Bloomfield - according to Intel, the max Turbo Frequency is 3.46 GHz - however, using the dummy OC on my eVGA mobo, which is basically Turbo (according to what I read at the eVGA forums), it actually hits 3.7 GHz...

    Intel Core i7 Extreme 965 @ 3740.62 MHz - CPU-Z VALIDATOR

I've always suspected that the eVGA method of a dummy OC was not actually just a regular turbo mode, and this seems to support that idea.

Anyhoo, here's to hoping that I can get an updated microcode for this CPU (and furthermore, that eVGA gets the source for the BIOS to release a new BIOS for these EoL components).

Clarkdale, Lynnfield, and Gulftown are all first generation Core processors based on the Nehalem architecture. I didn't say that Intel released microcode updates for all first generation Core processors. And no, I wasn't including the older Core 2 processors.

True enough. I read more into what you wrote than what you actually wrote. My apologies.

    So, here is the kicker.

Intel: We now won't ever patch Spectre variant 2 flaw in these chips | ZDNet

According the the actual PDF, Bloomfield, Clarksfield, Gulftown, both Harper town Xeon families, Jasper Forest, Penryn, Sofia (Atom), all Wolfdale, and all Yorkfield are not going to get updated.

    That sucks.

I'm almost positive that yesterday it said that microcode updates for Gulftown processors had been released. I was either hallucinating, or it was a typo that was subsequently corrected.
