    Hi,

Sorry but I'm 100% certain I am correct.
It appears you seem to be stuck on how Debian (Linux) updates MC through the OS.
And of course if you reflash the CPU's MC with a previous version of it then you effectively rolled it back.

As said before, flash update a CPU's MC on system one, move that CPU to system two and you'll find the MC of the chip is exactly the same on both boards. Permanently and persistently so.

    Cheers,
    You are 100% wrong.

No, I am not and it is quite easy to prove too. I 've been hinting to that for a while now so I'll leave you to whatever you prefer to believe.

InSpectre #8 was released yesterday (11/4/2018), showing information if MS patch is available:

Inspectre now lists, if MS microcode is available via MS patch..

InSpectre now shows if Intel has released a microcode update for your processor. It doesn't show if the update has been incorporated into a patch from Microsoft (or at least I don't see where it shows you that).

This is the result I got after running GRC's inSpectre latest version. A big thank you to @AndreTen for the referenced link to ghacks.net article.

Now it is up to me find that microcode update. I have been waiting for so long.

I've been lucky, I guess. Dell/Alienware has released 4 firmware/bios updates since mid December, each time fine tuning the microcode and engine management a bit more. Protected and good performance. Only downside I have seen is about a 5% drop in sequential SSD read transfer rate. I can live with that.

I think it only checks the Intel site - it's still up to the OEM or MS to include it in a released version if I understand that new functionality correctly

Yup same here, Dell has been on the ball with their firmware updates... I haven't benchmarked the SSD perfomance - but any hit it's taken, I haven't noticed in daily work -- not that I'm a power user by any means
