The legal system here is designed such that if you lose, you get awarded significant court costs. Also maximum payouts are much lower than in US.

As a result, solicitors only take on no win, no fee when they believe they have a greater than 50% chance at least (and probably nearer 80%) of winning.

Avast Forum even suggested getting it from the Update Catalog, as a lot of Avast users unable to see It from Windows update, despite Avast did add the registry key, some users went as far as to uninstall the program entirely, and upon restart update showed up on Windows update (I'm one of the uninstaller crowd lol) despite probably didn't have to go that far lol
Maybe you didn't have to go that far... Besides, one has to realize that not only software update i.e., A-V is necessary for this update to install correctly , it seems also that Hardware/Firmware updates are required such as microcode from Device OEMs. Does MS have a way of detecting whose machine is fit to receiving the update...No idea. We will have to wait out until next Tuesday (Tuesday patch) to find out..

OK now did it via catalog and all went smooth. I didn't re-install Avast, it is not really needed.

Same here with court costs if it’s a loss. No doubt payouts are higher here. That's one of the reasons why our house, auto, manufacturing, and medical insurances are so high, especially medical.

And a cup of coffee. Anyone who places a cup of hot coffee knowing how hot it is between their legs has absolutely no common sense: Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants - Wikipedia

Not sure if that’s the result, but same here. "Ambulance chasers" as we call them will only take on a suite if they feel they can win. In fact, lawyers advertise here a lot to do such. Not sure of the percentage though.

Looks like we’re not tops. Found this paper on some facts: https://www.clements.com/sites/defau...-the-World.pdf

I see MS is covering their arse with their end. Just got an update on my Window phone. As sure as I’m writing this there will be a class action suite over this issue. Not sure if I’ll sign up for it at this point. I’ll have to see more facts.

Lawyers in my country will take anybody to court for anything.
I'm sure Intel has it's own legal team.
By the time the case is settled Laptops will come with 10 core cpu's as standard issue.
Remember lawyers get paid by the hour.

At the present time I just want a fix.

KB4056892 installed on my system on the Jan 4 without any problem.

Regarding this being a software fix for a hardware problem, someone on YT brought up a point. Hackers will start reverse engineering the patch and it’ll just be a game of whack a mole from here on out.

I suppose it’s no different than the rest of Windows and security fixes but with this one, each time someone defeats the patch, it’s a major breach.

Well I have done several tests before and after on my AMD10 laptop and I could not detect any significant differences in

    1) copy large 4GB file on SSD (to same SSD) - task manager showed it was disk limited (hardly any cpu usage)

    2) Convert an mp4 file to wmv format- task manager showed it was cpu limited (modest disk usage)
