this download certainly opened a can of worms for me, which took the evening to sort out, first attempt failed so ran repair second attempt downloaded and installed to 97 % then hung for an hour, third attempt then showed it was installing fall update which was already installed but I clicked ok and waited another hour while this downloaded it then added three updates to the download including the fix it then installed each taking more time eventually it stated all installed correctly to my great relieve I don't know what went wrong I leave that to the gods I'm just happy I have landed up with a laptop that is noticeably faster than it was not slower, it would be interesting to know what caused this but it could only be a one off concerning my set up I suppose and I certainly don't have the knowledge or computer savvy to delve in to the unknown. good year wishes to all

Weird man, i am having no problems whatsoever at the moment. Its been a lot different as i had my fair share of issues with Windows but as for now there are no issues.

Than again, i am on AMD instead Intel, perhaps that could explain it.

Updated last evening through WU without a problem.

Updated today with KB4056892 without any issues so far. Did a test with Microsoft Flight Simulator X and it was smooth as usual.
Also tested with Cinebench R15 and I got the same scores now as I had before the update.

Caveat; No mention of "Meltdown/Spectre" on Microsofts support page for this update.

I see a lot of ppl reporting just their patch's install experience, which is fine. Unfortunately no one is shedding some light on the bigger question: is this patch enough for people to be reasonably safe or do we need other updates? If so, which ones? Besides updating internet browsers, do we need to update the cpu microcode as well? Is a MB Bios flash necessary? I'm having difficulty imagining Asus, Gigabyte and others releasing bios updates for their older models (3/4+ years old). I seriously hope that update won't be needed, otherwise we'll never be truly "safe".
Anyway, shoud you guys need it, here are the latest official intel cpu microcodes, dated 11/2017, which can be updated under windows via a simple program called VMWare Cpu Microcode Update Driver. Download links for both to follow:
