Cumulative Update KB4056892 Windows 10 v1709 Build 16299.192

An FYI: Every other day since January 9th, I've attempted to update from 16299.125 to 16299.192 by manually clicking on "Check For Updates". However, the update was never retrieved/delivered using that method.... Only an Adobe Flash update and the Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Tonight, I downloaded and installed using the link provided by awesome member BRINK, in post #1 of this thread. First time I've ever downloaded a Windows Update using a direct link like that. Downloaded and Installed quicker than when using the Windows Update function. Restarted when advised to, and am now at Win10 1709 16299.192, and running smoothly. (HP Pavillion Desktop)

Sorry to get back to you so late - guess better late than never eh?!

Anywho, if you have MiniTool set to 'Notification' Mode & have Windows Update running, WU will check but will not install updates. You will get a pop-up stating that there are updates to install. If you go into Windows Update in Settings, you will see the Updates available & a 'download' button. DO NOT use Windows Updates in Settings, instead use MiniTool. Open it up & run the check for updates from there. It will give you exactly the same updates WU will, except YOU have the option whether to install all/any updates available. Any you do not want to install, put a checkmark in the box beside it & click on the 'Hide' button. Then put a checkmark in the ones you want to install & click 'Install' button. That's it - & if you go back into WU the update(s) hidden will not show up.

I also use 'Windows Update Blocker' which was recommended by a Win10 forum member in conjunction with MiniTool. 'Windows Update Blocker' when in disable mode will turn off WU in services. If you try to run the MiniTool when WUB is in disable mode, it will tell you that you need to enable WU because it is not enabled. So, what i do is first enable WU in WUB then open MiniTool & run. After installing the updates I want to install, when finished i disable WU in WUB & close down both programs. NOTE: If you use WUB & reenable WU service in it, you will manually need to reset MiniTool to 'Notification' mode as it will change to 'Automatic'. If you don't, it will allow WU in 'Settings' to download & install updates - some of which you might not want!

You can run it manually or wait for Windows to flash the pop-up about updates being available for installation. I generally run it every day i run Windows but you can do it either way.

The MiniTool makes the changes in 'Services' automatically once you make the changes in the program. You don't need to do anything. It really is a great program - too bad the program has not been updated since Dec/16.

OBTW, it was created by a Russian programmer!

(Notification is also an option in the tutorial on hiding updates).

I cannot confirm as both desktop/laptop are Pro but i don't see any reason why it wouldn't work with Home version.

I didn't know there was such an option in Winaero Tweaker (& i have it installed)

Yes exactly - WU will inform you via a pop-up of updates available to install. Then you would run MiniTool to install the update YOU want too install (rather than have MS determine it for you - sometimes with detrimental results! )
