Uhhh, got a new one for you - I posted this in the Today! thread because it is not directly related to this build, but anyway:

So, When I received that stupid System_Service_Exception error it was because it could not log me in, for whatever reason. The odd thing is that, after all the cleanup and fan replacing, when I first powered on the machine it tried to autolog me in (or else it seems like it did, because I saw that PW incorrect multiple times immediately before the GSOD). This happened several times before it finally started taking me to the Lock screen - but after pressing CTRL ALT DEL and trying to enter my PIN, I could get 1-2 digits in and GSOD again,
At that point I power cycled and went to bed last night.
I'm going to go searching for anything similar to this on the Interwebs and see what I come up with. But that disassociation between my PIN and my account PW is ... disconcerting. Especially as it has happened more than a few times, and now (I assume) just threw me for a GSOD loop for several hours....
Did you try to get this build on your machine Wynona? And did it install and run?
Yeah, that was my thought s well - If it were UUP related, then the .ISOs should have worked.
And if M$ were working under an NDA, then it would justify the 'lie' about the issue being UUP....
I was surprised to get an update yesterday when I powered my machine off and then restarted it. It looked like an MS update by the limited screen info but I see nothing in the installed update history. It was a small one as it didn't take much time. It said it was updating when part way through the shutdown then it did more on the restart.
I guess if I am the only one to see something like this it can't have been an OS update??
Run your "before" tests today, because if a new build is released tomorrow, it'll have the remediation for Variant 2, and surprisingly, MS is saying here that it's the one that causes slowdowns (on older hardware), not Meltdown.
