With my GAs (GTX 970 + GTX 560 Ti 446 Core) I always tend to use the latest driver directly from nVidia - and most times, the latest IP build tends to overwrite that with an older build (17063 notwithstanding, almost every time an IP upgrade happens the drivers are over-written by older WHQL certified drivers). My issue with the IP builds doing that is that they add in the 3D Vision components which I never use - I don't have the appropriate hardware for it, other than the relevant GAs, so upon a completed IP build upgrade, I go back and install the nVidia drives using the Custom option, selecting clean install and deselecting all the 3D vision components, as well as the GeForce Experience (which is utterly useless to me, since I manually check for drivers and other software updates almost daily).

I realize that you may not be talking about nVidia drivers, but I am just relating my experiences, especially since I like only particular components installed.

NVidia drivers aren't overwritten to me, but I don't think that it will help me much since I got an old GT 840M GPU. I doubt recent updates would bring something to this old GPU.

My Intel integrated GPU (HD Graphics 4400 Family) is getting overwritten with an older version of every install. So I was wondering if it would be better to stay with the Windows Update version (since the components are old-ish).

Another question related to the Driver Updates comes in regards to the Windows Update MiniTool. Have you ever used it? I gave it a chance on my previous Windows installation and it detected a bunch of drivers that weren't by Windows Update and also not mentioned on my laptop provider driver list. I find it weird since this tool supposedly uses the same place to get updates as Windows Update.

What can you make out of this?

I've never used it, I prefer to keep a copy of the Snappy Driver Installer around (~15 GB for all drivers) but it does a great job of detecting drivers that are outdated on my system, particularly my Marvell chipset drivers (for which the only available ones are from 2011 from eVGA for my mobo, and that chip controls my SATA III ports, which is what my system and main data drives are connected to....)

The drivers from my laptop provider are ourdated as well. Only the OEM drivers are newer than both WU and the provider.

It'll come in due time I guess. They have to get through the Sets testing telemetry data to see if they'll include that for all. They may not, though. Plenty of bugs reported to fix as well.

Also should report that last night as one last thing was to catch up on the news. Edge had no sound. Opened IE to get it. All fine today.
