    Restoring VM shares

    Hi all,

A while back a user (I think it was @slicendice) posted a regedit needed to enable the option to restore virtual machines which had been exported using the share button in vmconnect screen.

I have clean installed, and it will not work now, saying I do not have permission (before it juts failed), and I suspect reason is I have not done the regedit. Unfortunately, I did not take a record of the regedit, and it is buried in a previous Insider build thread, and could not find it.

    So if anybody can help....

    Cheers

    C.

    Try to rename in registry:
    Code:
    Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\HyperV.VMImport.1\shell\open
    to
    Code:
    Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\HyperV.VMImport.1\shell\runas
    and see if it works.

As our friends across the Pond say "You are dah man"!

    Worked first time.

Have you fed this back to MS?

Come to that, how did you ever find this out in the first place?

I found this solution when I was trying to figure out how to run any type of registered files in elevated mode by only modifying the registry.

Seems Windows is only looking for either an Open or RunAs command in the registry which is defined by the path. Open is the normal mode while RunAs elevates the command defined. Of course this also means you must be in the Administrators group in order for it to work. :)

    Glad I could help!
