VSphere 5.5 client update 3 is not able to EDIT SETTINGS on version 10

    Good morning,

When trying to edit settings on a version 10 client it claims I cannot without using the webclient and vcenter server. Supposedly update 2 of Vsphere will allow you to do so however. I have downloaded the latest 5.5. Vsphere client update 3 and it won't allow me to edit settings on the version 10 guest.

Any clue to why or how I can get to these settings?

    I appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Kaj

    Try downgrading the version

ESXi 5.5: Downgrade from virtual hardware version 10 (vmx-10) | ITblah

When downgrading a ESXi guest virtual hardware version from version 10:

    Turn off the guest
Create a snapshot, its not required but is good practise.
Remove the guest from the inventory (Right-click -> remove from inventory)
Browse the datastore your guest is stored one and download the guest’s [name].vmx file.
Open the [name].vmx file on your workstation and change the “virtualHW.version = “10″ line to virtualHW.version = “9″
Use the datastore browser to upload the file to the original location
Add the guest back to your inventory by right clicking the vmx file and selecting “Add to inventory”
    Start the guest

I followed these steps. It now allows me to edit using Vsphere again. People have to watch out for the "upgrade hardware" menu item that turns your guest into a version 10 automatically.. rotten place to have it in VSphere..
