There are several references on the internet about Hyper-V shared folders....maybe they are all confused !!!
How To Share A Folder In A Hyper-V Virtual Machine With The Host
here is an extract from such a post

As I said, maybe these posts are all in error or are talking about something different, it just led me to believe such a feature was possible....

but a network shared folder on the same PC will be perfect for my needs
    1. The article you linked to for instance says nothing about "Hyper-V shared folders". A feature like that simply does not exist.
    2. There's no reason to set the vm to use an internal switch as told in that article, although that can be used if the vm does not need Internet connection. If the vm needs Internet connection it should use an external switch, instead of internal switch. An article stating that you need an internal switch to share folders on vm with host is worthless.
    3. A vm is as I have already mentioned like any other computer in your network. Sharing is done as it's done between any two computers.

It sounds too much trouble! In VMWare you just set the network to NAT (shared with the host) and you have access to internet as well as can share data between the host and the guest. To avoid all these you can just copy-paste between the two. Or access the host via Teamviewer from XP and copy files from the file transfer utility.

Better solution: install Dropbox on both host and guest and place your files you want to share there.

    thanks everyone....
will just use conventional network folder sharing, also use box.net as you get 10gb free which is so easy to share files....which as in the cloud does not require both networked computers to be on....

am now all set thanks to everyone's help, particularly Spapakons.....thank you
