    VMWare Player 17.6 Doesn't Work

Is there a way to get VMWare Player 17.6 to work in W10 Home, or should I just go back to 17.5? (I don't know how to navigate the VMWare and BroadCom support sites.)

I used to use the VMware Player. However, I am now using the VMware Workstation Pro since it is now free also for personal use.

I have VMware Workstation Pro 17.5 installed on Windows 11 Pro computers. I will try 17.6 on a Windows 10 Home computer to see if I have any problems. I will post back after I try that.

I have had a VMware account for over 10 years. I never had a problem downloading the VMware Player. I moved that account to Broadcom and found the download link for "VMware Workstation Pro for Personal Use (For Windows)" but get an error when I try to use it. I have given up on trying to download anything from that site until they fix the problem.

I now have other ways to get both the VMware Player and the VMware Workstation Pro. Here are the links for v17.6.

    Update:

I had no problems installing VMware Workstation Pro 17.6 on the following 15 year old computer:
    MBD: ASUS M4N82 Deluxe
CPU: AMD Phenom II 960T (4C/4T)
    RAM: Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 8GB (4x2GB)
    O/S: Windows 10 Home (64-bit)

Note I haven't created any VMs on it yet so can't say how well it will perform.

I just tried Workstation Pro 17.6, and it hangs, just like Player 17.6.

I had the same problem with version 17.6 (Workstation Player and Workstation Pro).

    VMware-workstation-17.5.2-23775571.exe.tar

    edit:

Windows 11 now supports 7-zip and TAR files.

In Windows 10, you probably need to use a third-party program.

I don't know what your problem is. Is your computer powerful enough to run VMware Workstation Player or Workstation Pro?

I now have VMware Workstation Pro 17.6 on one desktop with Windows 10 Home, one desktop with Windows 11 Pro and one laptop with Windows 11 Pro.

Versions up to 17.5.2 both Player and Pro work fine, but version 17.6.0 both Player and Pro hang when I try to launch a VM.

I found a solution to the installation problem, but I don't run the commands, I'm waiting for a new version.

"An error occurred while applying security settings. Users is not a valid user or group. This could be a problem with the package, or a problem connecting to a domain controller on the network. Check your network connection and click Retry, or Cancel to end the install."

In the link below: "From what I researched the problem occurs in versions of Windows that are not native in en-us, I use Windows in pt-br version."

I want to add this is a known problem as confirmed by Broadcom support. I just got an email from Broadcom that told me that the next update will fix this problem. However, when the update comes out is unknown. Some people have developed workarounds but I think the best option is to go back to v17.5.2 until the fixed version is released.

Just go back. Unless there is a specific reason to run whichever version.??????????????? Is there a reason??????

What is more important is the VMtools. Which are the compatibility drivers.

I could only assume it is looking for something like Hyper-V ??? Not sure. Or another feature. However I do not need Hyper-V to run VMware.

It's not looking for Hyper-V. VMware and Hyper-V conflict with each other, because of the difference between type 1 and type 2 hypervisors. There's an article somewhere that does a good job of explaining them. (I needed multiple articles to get it.)
