    Moving Windows Subsystem for Linux install between partitions or syste


    Although I have pretty good skills for Windows-related topics (for a non-IT guy), I'm an utterly complete noob about VMs, etc.

    Is it true that Microsoft creates a VHD to install Windows Subsystem for Linux, and that a VHD is treated by Windows as a self-contained file ?

    If so, can I copy/move WSL between systems either by LAN copy or using a external HDD? ... by copying or moving WSL on the same system using normal copy/move operations within Explorer?

    Windows 10 Pro 64 2H22.

    I'm not sure about WSL, but if you just use a Hyper-V VM with Linux installed on it you can move/copy it to other computers just like any other file transfer.
