That's a screenshot of you VM's settings. It tells me nothing about your attempts at downloading MSE.

You settings show that your W7 VM should have internet access. If you want to install MSE then you should use a browser within the Win7 VM to download it to the VM, then run the installer inside the VM. There are two MSEInstall.exe downloads available, the 14.4 MB one is for 64-bit Win7, the 11.7 MB one is the 32-bit version.

    Thanks for confirming that.

Unless it's in the systray's hidden icons I don't see any AV in your screenshot. If not, you may like to know that Microsoft Security Essentials is still available to download.

It still gets updates, and uses the same scan engine and definitions as Windows 10/11's Windows Security.

Attempting to install MES, I get the message "You don't need to install Microsoft Security Essentials" with the only option to "Close" the download page. (And, I found this, "Microsoft Security Essentials reached end of service on January 14, 2020 and is no longer available as a download.")

That is strange. I had no problem downloading and installing Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7 Pro VM. BTW, I just took these screenshots today. The download still works.

The why are you talking about Microsoft Security Essentials? You only need it if you can connect to the Internet.

Before I started following this thread my Windows 7 VM couldn't connect to the Internet either! I followed the information posted in this thread and created a Legacy Network Adapter. After that I could connect to the Internet.

You need to go back and read through this thread again. Enough information is there so that you can get your Windows 7 VM to connect to the Internet.
