Vmware Installation error

I have tried to install Vmware Player 17.1, but I keep getting the msi error as shown below, saying it could not find the file:
vc_RuntimeMinimum_x86.msi.

This file does actually exist, but under a different folder than the one shown in the top error message. When I directed the installer to the location of the file with the same name, it still would not accept it. All earlier versions of VMware player installed first time without incident, so any clue as to what is going wrong here please?
