You are always going to get issues if you do not keep reasonably up to date. Please follow advice properly rather than selectively choosing what to do. We can only support by example and we cannot do that properly if you are not on a supported version.

If you phoned MS Support and asked for help, what do you think they will say if you are on a 3 year old version?

I was finally able to install a Virtual Windows 10 Pro ( fully updated!) with Hyper-V.
I closed the machine, but when I reconnected to it some time later, I could no longer get it working: I got a message to reboot and select a boot device. I don't know why and how to go about it.
Also at one point, on another attempt to connect, I was prompted tp install the Windows OS again, even thoughI had already installed following the tutorial.
Incidentally, the Windows Updates came in by the ..ton: between yesterday and today I got about 40 of them ! It might be a coincidence , but after this heavy load, the PC became considerably slower. I' m sure you will see no connection, but this is what people have been saying all along about the Windows Updates! AS usual, the truth is always somewhere in the middle.

I appreciate that. In fact, after installing all the updates, I was able to create the Hyper-V V.M. and install Windows on it.
Why then, I have to ask again, did it fail to restart one hour later and I was asked to insert the media and reboot? Windows was already installed! I spent an hour fiddling with the settings, trying to get it started. I am sure it is no longer a question of updates, because the system is now fully updated.
Make no mistakes, I know how to " insert media and reboot" on a physical environment! I'ved been on computers for 20 years, but I am new on the virtual environment. THis is why we ask around .

Yes, of course. CD-Rom Drive is always the 1st boot priority in my system.

The Hyper-V BIOS order seems to be OK: CD, IDE, Legacy Network, Floppy

I did set IDE as 1st boot priority. Still, it doesn’t work. Now I am getting messages that I have not enough memory. I had initially set the RAM at 1024 MB, then at 2048 and then at 3000 MB, unsuccessfully.
I don’t think I can set more RAM, because mine is an old computer and the installed RAM is 4 GB.
I created a 2nd VM machine and tried to reinstall Windows. This time it won’t even let me, because it says there is not enough memory. It is odd, because the 1st time, on the other VM, I had no problem to install Windows with the same RAM.
