@Studynxx - please allow me to step in here, as I do not want to start a thread with the very same question.
Up front: I am not an expert.
I bought VMware Workstation Pro quite some time ago and still use it, be it occasionally. The upgrades are costly.
Am using Windows 10 x64 Pro only (no intention to try Linux). Have 2 Windows 10 x64 VM's.
I am considering to make a move to HyperV. Have noticed a few tutorials and a video from @Kari
There are a few things I am not sure of. Bearing in mind Windows 10 x64 as a host and Windows VM's,
there is a Hypervisor Type 1 and Type 2.
I believe VMware Workstation Pro is a type 2 VM(?)
Q1: why choose for either one of them? When to choose for type 2, when is it better to use type 1 ?
Q2: performance wise: in case of type 1, which I believe works 'side-by-side' with the existing Windows, instead of using the existing Windows as host, what is the impact performance wise, for instance, when using the existing Windows and Hypervisor 1 is running. Maybe it doesn't make any difference?
Q3: VMware allows to make a snapshot, which is really nice: after testing some program, one can easily revert to the last good working Windows version. Does HyperVisor 1 also have a snapshot feature?
Q4: Windows licenses: the current VM's are using Windows 10 Pro licenses, which were upgrades from existing, retail (boxed) Windows 8 and 7 licenses. I believe, after upgrading to 10, those 7 and 8 license-codes became null and void(?)
How will this work in case of setting up Hypervisor? Maybe they are linked to my Outlook account and I shouldn't worry, I don't know.
Sorry for all the questions.
Many thanks!
