How do I set things up to share a folder in Hyper-v and Ubuntu 22.04?

How do I set things up to share a folder in Hyper-v and Ubuntu 22.04 on a Windows 10 Pro host?

I did everything I assumed I was supposed to do. I set up a shared folder on my Windows 10 Pro host machine. I used "Properties" to gife the folder Read/Write Permissions to everyone. It has a network path now.

Then I put a test file and test folder inside the shared folder.

Then I went to my Ubuntu Virtual Machine through Hyper-V. I wnet to the Network area thinking that this is where I would be able to find what I need but what I found was not intuitive and did not match what I would expect. I decided it would save time to do a video screen capture.

    Please advise.

In order to share folders with ubuntu in Hyper-V and host OS, I am pretty sure you have to setup Ubuntu to run in enhanced mode.

This is a good tutorial on how to do it.

You used the default network switch which isolates the VM network from your physical network. Create an external switch and use that for your VM and you will be able to see the physical LAN from within the VM.

    Hi there
On the Ubuntu system the easiest way to enable file sharing is to ensure SAMBA is correctly installed and configured. Then from Windows file explorer should work, and from UBUNTU whatever file manager you use.

Then also with correct external switch (as previous poster has said) you should have shared file access both ways i.e from Host to Guest and from Guest to host.

    cheers
