No welcome screen on Hyper-V VM

Hello I have a VM with windows 10.
The vm started ok, all I get is the lock screen.
When I click the screen to get the welcome screen nothing happens.
I have repaired windows and reinstalled using the iso, but the problem still persists.

    Thanks

Do all of the following apply?

    • You are using Hyper-V
    • You sign in to the VM with a PIN
    • You are using Enhanced Mode to connect to the VM

If so, then see this post for the simple fix: Windows 11 and Hyper V enhanced session. | Page 2 | Windows 11 Forum

If not, then tell us a bit more about how you are running the VM (using VMWare? VirtualBox?) what build of Windows you have on the Host (check with Winver) and what build of Windows you have installed as the Guest OS.

    thanks for your reply.
    - I'm using Hyper-V
    - I sign in with a Pin
    - No I'm not using Enhanced mode. Enhanced mode is disabled for some reason.
The Host has windows 10 pro for workstation with build 19044.1466.

Basic Mode should work ok, so you can disable Windows Hello, and then enhanced mode will work.

Enhanced mode is only disabled if the version of Windows in vm is Home as it does not have an RDP Server.

If you are unable to dismiss the lock screen, this seems to be a keyboard issue.

Try just grabbing lock screen with mouse and swiping upwards.

If that fails, I would mount the vhd as a drive in Windows, and create a dual boot entry to natively boot vhd on Host.

    Code:
bcdboot #:\windows /d (where # is drive letter of windows directory in vhd as seen in file explorer)
Then you can go in and either disable the lockscreen (see tutorials in tutorial section), or use netplwiz to remove requirement to use password to login.

Then boot into normal host windows and optionally remove dual boot entry using MSCONFIG (delete entry from Boot Tab.

Thank you all for your assistance.
Today when I run the vm I noticed the enhanced was enabled, and so I was able to log in.
the puzzle is what could cause the disable.
