Logging into Hyper-V without entering a password.

It has always been a pain with Hyper-V to start a windows VM without a password.

If you use an MS password, and use netwplwiz so you do not need to enter a password, it still requires a password.

I discovered if you change to a local account, and remove password, it now starts without any problem. In the past, it would keep disconnecting unless you had a password.

I first discovered this on W11 but same is true of Hyper-V.

    Interesting note. Thanks.

So far, without a password, I was always testing via VMConnect console.

I do that on a W11 Pro VM, W11 Home VM and my work system, a W10 Pro VM, all on Hyper-V

    Dual-boot Win 7 & 10, both Pro 64-bit, now with a Hyper-V VM of Win 11

cereberus and all here -- this is what I did when I created my first ever VM. My Host OS is Win 10 Pro 64-bit version 21H1, and my first VM is Win 11 Pro 64-bit version 21H2.

To start, when I first ran my Win 11 iso to create the Win 11 VM, I selected only local account, and entered a new user name when asked but left the password prompts blank.

Later, after a number of shut downs and starts of the VM, I did these two things in the Win 11 VM:

in Win+R netplwiz, you can UNcheck the checkbox in the line "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer".
However, if that line does not appear (which happened to me), you can do the following:
In cmd admin prompt, I copied, pasted and ran the following (which changes the registry)
    reg ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device" /v DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
Then, in Win+R netplwiz, I saw that the above reg change created the checkbox line "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer", and I UNchecked it.

"How to disable the lock screen in the Pro edition of Windows 10" (which I did in the Win 11 VM)
    Right-click the Start button.
    Click Search.
Type gpedit and hit Enter on your keyboard.
    Double-click Administrative Templates.
    Double-click Control Panel.
    Click Personalization.
Double-click Do not display the lock screen.
    Click Enabled.

    Helpful?
