Your description of viboot is inaccurate, Viboot not create bootable images.
V8 loads a Reflect backup as a virtual machine in either Hyper-V or Virtualbox.
Version 7 will only work with Hyper-V.

I had to stop for a week. I figured out how to do it for new macrium backups, but I have to fix for old microsoft backups. It is true that I had already tried many years ago on linux to do such a thing (boot from a windows partition from virtualbox under ubuntu) but then I gave up. boot from a windows partition from virtualbox under ubuntu
Anyone can give me some tips?
If you are running Windows 10 HOME you can enable Hyper-V using the following .
Just paste the following in a text file and save it as a .bat file. run it as an Administrator. It enables Hyper-V. Don't waste your money on PRO.
pushd "%~dp0"
dir /b %SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\*Hyper-V*.mum >c:\users\public\hyper-v.txt
for /f %%i in ('findstr /i . c:\users\public\hyper-v.txt 2^>nul') do dism /online /norestart /add-package:"%SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\%%i"
del c:\users\public\hyper-v.txt
Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Hyper-V -All /LimitAccess /ALLpause
Note if Edge will not let you download the .bat file. use another browser.
Are these backups Windows XP or 7?
How were they made?
Either way:
It might be possible to use same tools and restore in the VM itself.
Just place the backups on an external USB / HDD that you can give to the VM and access them from there.
I use the same method to restore Macrium Reflect images in VMs.
The most reliable place to buy a key to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro is directly from Microsoft via the website or the store. Of course, this also means you are going to pay $99 for the upgrade.

Hi there
Glad you like it -- certainly much easier than messing around with Virtual Box or even VMWare when using Linux Hosts -- on some Linux hosts VMWare will fail when the kernel gets uipdated because the linux-headers are out of sync with the main kernel. (Arch Linux avoids that by by automatically finding the correct vmware modules for the appropriate kernel after an update).
Just two things to note though in using KVM
GUEST - HOST (and reverse) communication needs a bit of work to get it to function -- I've posted elsewhere what to do on that and using only WIFI for "Bridging or Mactap" NIC devices might not work even though Internet access on bost Guest and VM will function with Wifi.
I tend to use LAN cables and even on a WIFI enabled laptop I use a USB->LAN adapter --then all my LAN cables go to a switch.
Cheers

Summary why we are getting lost:
I have to "restore" system partitions (C :) on a virtual machine, created on purpose. Backups were done with windows backup software.
Does anyone know if it can be done and how?
The goal is to restart the old backup in the virtual machine.
