Hyper-v guest cant ping the host

    hi
i have installed windows 11 as VM and windows 10 is the host.

    network host config
Hyper-v guest cant ping the host-annotazione-2021-08-23-145808.png

The virtual machine guest network setting:
    ip: 192.168.0.11
    netmask: 255.255.255.0
    geteway: 192.168.0.1

From the host i can ping the guest 192.168.0.11
from the guest i cant ping host 192.168.0.2
I had also disabled the firewall but without success.

    any help ?
    thanks :)

The default switch only allows internet access, not LAN access (and the host is considered on the LAN). You need to create an External or Internal switch for the VM to use.

True but you cannot ping Guest from Host with the default switch (behind a NAT) but you can ping Host from Guest. So this is the opposite to client explanation.

In any cases, the IP addresses are on same subnet, and that would mean an external switch most probably.

I think this might be a permissions issue e.g. need to use CMD in admin mode, or something like that.

You are correct, I did not notice the IP addresses were on the same subnet.

I just tried pinging host from guest and vice versa with an external switch, and it worked fine both ways.

Is your host configured to respond to pings in the firewall?

Typically this is done by enabling File and Printer sharing
