Need Help With Hyper V & External Drives

    Hi There

I am running Windows 11 in a VM. All is working fine expect that I cannot see how to show my external hard drives in File Explorer.

When I first ran the VM I clicked on something (!) and they appeared. That VM was accidently deleted and now I cannot recall how I got the VM to see the drives!! Any help would be gratefully received.

There are a few ways you could go about this.

    1) You could share the drives on your physical machine and simply connect to those drives my mapping them just as you would connect to any drive over the network.

    2) Probably a better choice is to make use of the "Enhanced Session" capabilities in Hyper-V. This tutorial should provide all the details that you need:

Turn On or Off Hyper-V Enhanced Session Mode in Windows 10

Please do let me know if you have any additional questions.

Note that that won't work if using the default network switch in Hyper-V. The default network switch in Hyper-V will not allow you to connect to local LAN resources, only internet resources.
