Windows 95 VM Networking help [VBox]

I just using ISO creator for now. and VBox for Host to VM and VM to Host things.

For Vbox Host to VM and back you can also use a VHD disk.
You make one on the host, not that big, for your transfer files. Format it to fat32 and add it to the VM. There you can copy what you need then power off VM (IDE is not hot-swappable) and on your host you can mount the VHD and get to the files. While this is used on the host, don't power on the VM.

I using FAT(16) not FAT32.

Also, I'm using Pass-through (Host > VBox > Vmware) because vhd disk format doesn't supported by Vmware and vmdx format doesn't supported by Windows.

And also I think using USB? but the first version implemented it is Windows 98 SE. Should I upgrade to 98SE? because I don't have a cd key for 98SE.

For usb -flash- drives on W95, I used this:
USB Flash Driver for Windows 95 (OSR 2.1)

FAT16 ok, but FAT32 is also supported.

VHD has to be supported by your host.
VMDK is native to VMWare but also supports VHD.
VHDX is the format of choice in Windows and Hyper-V but don't use it in VBox / VMWare.

For VHD you use diskmgmt on your host, create, attach, format..., detach, add to VM...

I think W98 is technically "Abandonware" these days so there's a generic key available so just google.

For USB on early Windows releases you'll probably have to set USB support at 1.0 or 1.1 in the VM's config file - on VMWare there's a dropdown to select the level of USB support. Now whether todays large HDD's will work on USB 1 is another issue though.

There's some really Bonkers people out there trying to run Win 98 SE Native on modern hardware -- you could probably follow this guide but on a VM.

Note vhd / vhdx don't have to be supported natively by Windows etc -- when you share a virtual disk from a VM to another machine (real or VM) that machine sees the virtual HDD as a "physical Disk" -- i.e NTFS / FAT32 / Linux file formats etc.

That's how for example you can create a Win98 Virtual machine residing on an SSD -- those weren't even in the realms of Science Fiction when Win 98 came out.

I've used it in Player years ago. Unless they've removed it recently.

Now, I installed Windows 98SE in my Windows 95 VM. Also installed Windows 2000 Professional in different VM.

The problem is the Network share. I can't share to VM to host. I using Vmware drag and drop feature.

I can now browse the Internet. except this site.
