Windows 95 VM Networking help [VBox]

Host: Windows 10 20h2 [Core i3 with 4GBs of ram]
VM: Windows 95 OSR1 [Setted as Pentium with 128mb of ram]

I can't install the network drivers, and Guest Additions.
I need to else work the network, so I can pass files from my Host PC to my VM.
Guest Additions throws me an error.

    Also, VBox 6.22

    Hi there

    @jbcarreon123

Try to set networking for the VM up as "Bridged Mode" and the vm network adapter as "Ethernet" -- I don't think you'll get any Wireless adapter to work on W95 -- could be wrong of course but the "Virtual BIOS" should handle things like Network and display via paravirtualised hardware.

You might also have better luck with VMWare player -- often it seems better at supporting really old OS's. Again set the network to "Bridged mode". After ist boot install vmware tools if using vmware products. It will be available either automatically or from the menu "install vmware tools". VMWare player is also free for Home / Individual users.

Also turn on Network Discovery on the W10 machine.

On the HOST Windows system you need also to enable SMB1 if not done so already otherwise you won't be able to share files with the VM.

Windows Networking IMO is always "touch and go" and in general I've found communication between HOST and GUEST on a Windows HOST when using NAT (the default mode) not as reliable as using "Bridged Mode" - but experiment - every machine seems to have different Networking properties when it comes to Windows IMO. !!!

The only disadvantage in using Bridged Networking is that it uses another physical IP address on your network - so there might be problems if in say a place like a Hotel, School Dorm or wherever a lot of people share the same Network .

    VirtualBox:
There are no Guest Additions for Win 9x.

    How to improve VM usability:
virtualbox.org • View topic - Tutorial: Windows 95/98 guest OSes

Setting things up as described should provide you better graphics and overall performance.
The VM is usable but don't expect too much of it.

VMWare Player has additions for Win 9x, in that case as @jimbo45 said, you might have better luck there.

    Another:
This is the method I'm using:
    Install MS-DOS 6.22 (3 floppy disks) > Install Windows 3.1.1 (4 floppy disks) > Install Windows 95 OS Revision 1 [I'm so sorry] (21 floppy disks + 1 startup disk)

    A snapshot error?
Disable snapshots. Use one VMDK just to keep it simple.

If all fails, VBox, VMware, you can also try to install it in PCem.

You have a lot of floppy disks to go through...

If you only want Win95 then I'm sure there's an easier way.

Try to install it as simple as possible, directly to Win95. No need to go through loops of DOS -to- 3.1 since there might be different issues to run all those in one VM. (config or hardware issues)

Get the Win95 floppy (startup) disk and boot it up, then run setup from CD.

Setup hangs when in Please insert Windows 95 Disk X on long time.
Also, I using floppies on winworldpc.net and all the cdroms are OEMs.

Was not sure from intro post: Have you already installed it in VBox?
You can then just convert the image to VMDK, if you used VDI, and use that in VMware.
It will accept any VHD or VMDK disk but you'll need to convert the native-virtualbox format VDI to something else if you move it to VMware.

Ah then you can also get the pre-made VM from there, that way you avoid the long floppy install: Windows 95 (VMware VM)
WinWorld: Windows 95 RTM (the VM is not OSR1, it's RTM)
