VM's - What VM OS'es /hosts / virt progs are you using

I was just amazed that on a topic on XP I got over 10,000 views and another one over 14,000 -- so I thought would be interesting to get an idea of what VM's people are running, on what type of HOST system and what Virtualisation platform they are using -- I know quite a few run the various W10 insider builds on a VM (makes sense too). I'd be interested if people were running W7 builds, VISTA builds or even Millenium edition builds.

I've some legacy hardware that needs XP but I think I might be able to "Poodle fake" some of the drivers so it might work on W7 which IMO would be better but I was amazed too see the number of views for XP !!!!!!

Not creating a POLL on this topic as there's far too many options and combinations -- I'm just interested to know what people are running as VM's.

I'm running Hyper-V on a Windows 10 Pro platform at home. The reason for Hyper-V is having to have support for Docker Desktop and WSL2. Prior to this change, I was on Virtual Box and prior to that VMWare Workstation) I'm running on an AMD Ryzen CPU on PCIe Gen 3 (external) NVMe drives over USB 3.2 10Gbps and PCIe Gen 4. NVMe drives. Since I use my machine for both work and gaming at home, it needs to run on a Windows platform for the best game support.

My VM's mostly consist of

1. Windows 2019 servers, (domain controllers, Storage Servers, Microsoft Failover Clustering setups (SQL).
2. New and test releases of Windows 10
3. Various Linux distributions.

Currently I'm running several variations of W10 plus a few Linux and a W8 Pro on Hyper-V. I recently (mid January) movedmy "work" system from a tower (listed as system 1 in my info) to a VM as an experiment. Performance wise, I don't see anydifference from running it on the previous system. I also have an Insider version running. Both are W10 Pro, and run 24/7 on my second listed system. I also mount a Macrium Reflect Image of a system when I want to verify it. I often have 3 VM’s running at the same time, and my host system seems to handle everything just fine.


I used to run the Linux VM’s on Virtual Box, but stopped using VB because I frequently found that some or none of the VM’s would run after updating VB.
