Going Bonkers - got W2K3 X-64 server working on KVM/QEMU

    Hi there
Must be going bonkers -- got W2K3 X-64 server version working as a workstation on KVM/QEMU !!!

Great to have time to waste on such a hideous weekend weatherwise.

One needs a bit of fiddling to make it work as a Workstation as opposed to a server - but it's much better, stable and faster than XP 32 bit so I'm hoping to run my legacy XP stuff on this. The virtio drivers for windows all loading fine including Networkcards and proper Video resolution.

Now to convert it to a workstation !!!

You need to get all the "stop reasons for re-boot", add another user account , remove some of the domain security stuff and enable relevant sharing.

Had trouble getting this to work with VMWare but working fine on KVM/QEMU.

Sound working as well -- in the services enable the windows audio as to start automatically and start it
in the KVM for the audi for the VM set : channel spice and audio as : (audio to AC97)

    reboot the system

    Now sound is fine !!!!!

    It's a good testing round.
    Must be running/flying very smooth.
I gave the 32bit version a go, had that still around...

Its funny, while many of us are hard at work trying to get rid of these old systems like 2003 and 2008 from our data centers and Jimbo is working hard to get it installed.

    Hi there

And they work a lot better than anybody would have thought possible back years ago.

It's still fun anyway and legacy hardware and software can still be run safely.

BTW I did also get the Luna black XP Theme to work on the VM as well !!!
