Try setting Networking in the VM machine editor to "Bridged"
This was done automatically during the setup

Also on the GUEST try ensuring that you set "allow remote communications" , set Windows networking to SMB1 etc.On the HOST you probably need to enable SMB1 as well.
On the host, SMB1 is enabled, but I'm at a loss to find this setting in XP

You're never too old to try new things (especially as these days some of the youngsters seem to making a real pigs ear of running things -- more concerned with "Unisex toilets and transgender issues" than in getting businesses restarting again after what has been for most a really diabolical year).
Aye, laddie, I'm still trying new things, but because of the crazy TSA rules (if 5 or 10% of the passengers on those flights that hit the pentagon and the twin towers were armed, we wouldn't be remembering such events), traveling is way too arduous these days─I'm flying, maybe, once or twice a year, and find it most difficult. "Right on" with the differences between the youth of the world compared to the seasoned, and near seasoned citizens.
