Clipboard between host and Hyper-V guest not working

I enabled Hyper-V and installed Windows XP (for very old apps).

Everything seemed to be fine until I realize that I cannot transfer files between the host and the guest using clipboard!

    Any idea?

    Thanks!

Hello, to make sharing files work you need to enter "enhanced session" mode.
Once you do so and before clicking on "connect" select "Show options" and enable clipboard sharing.

Enhanced session mode isn't available for an XP guest OS, so that won't help. It is not available for any non-Windows guest OS, or for the Home editions of Windows (as they don't include the remote desktop server).

    * The Hyper-V virtual machine (guest) must have Remote Desktop Services enabled and run Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10 as the guest operating system.
    * Enhanced session mode isn't available for generation 1 (unless Windows 10 Pro, Education, or Enterprise) virtual machines or for virtual machines that run non-Windows operating systems.

For sharing files between the host and an XP guest, use a network share. Either share a folder on the host and connect to it from the XP guest, or share a folder in XP and connect to it from the host. Note that:

    • the XP guest can only use the Legacy Network Adapter.
    • XP only supports SMB1, so you'll have to enable it in the host's 'Windows Features', the SMB1 Server if you want to connect from XP to a share on the host, or the Client to connect from the host to an XP share.

An alternative that doesn't require networking is to create a virtual disk .vhd file. This can be mounted by the host to copy files to it, then unmounted so that it can be mounted as a second virtual drive in the XP VM.

There is a clipboard option in the vm connection window menu. This is for text-only.

The issue I have with this is that the mentioned shortcuts don't work, clicking the UI option does work.
You can input copied text in the VM.
Funny that the output, say you want something from the VM on your host, that you get is a screenshot, not text.
    For security reasons maybe...

I am disappointed but actually not surprised because MS has this long history of releasing applications which works only by the half. Typical.

Anyway, moving on... So I decided to quit Hyper-V and try VMWare which always served me strongly on Windows 7. Long history short in less than a half hour I got it working. For whose decide to try the same here it goes the recipe:

    1) First things first disable the Windows Hyper-V feature

    2) Install VMWare Workstation 15 or superior

    3) When you run it for the first time you may be granted with a notification in your bottom right saying 'VMware cannot run on Windows 10'. No panic. Watch the video that shows how to fix it at VMware Workstation Pro can't run on Windows - Message Solved - YouTube

    4) After to follow the simple steps of the video you should be able to start VMWare now. However when you try to create a new VM or even to open an existing VM you will be granted AGAIN with another notification and this time it will say 'VMWare workstation and device/credential guard are not compatible'. No panic. Watch the video that shows how to fix it at How to fix VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible - YouTube

    5) Enjoy! And yeah, the clipboard works back and forth like a charm for any contents you need (not only stupid text).

PS: My Windows version is 1909 so for newer versions it may not work.
