    2 Questions about VM's on HYPER-V

    Hi HYPER-V experts
I'm still unclear if this is possible on VM's using HYPER-V.

    1) Can the VM still be accessed remotely if there's nobody logged in to the Windows system -- or even if the account currently logged on has the keyboard locked.

    2) can the VM be started automatically from boot without anybody having to logon to Windows (The Host system)

    Thanks folks

    Cheers

    Hello, from what I know:

    1.) Yes
    2.) Yes

For point one, you'll need to setup "external virtual switch" to be used in target VM, details here:
What is the Hyper-V Virtual Switch and how does it work?

This means VM can be contacted on physical network, so you can access RDP services or services you configure.

For point 2, it's easy, target VM settings have an option to setup automatic VM startup when the system boots up.

Screenshot for options of questions 1 and 2:

Virtual switch settings are available in Hyper-V interface on the right side
Startup options are available in target VM settings dialog.

@zebal is correct, the answers are Yes & Yes.

Also worth remembering from when you asked a related question...

One addtional feature somewhat related to the topic:

A feature I like in Hyper-V is the option to select automatic stop and start actions. By default, if you shut down host PC, state of a running VM is saved, and the VM is then automatically started (saved state restored) at next boot of the host.
