    To upgrade or wait?

    I currently own VMware Workstation Pro 14. I am aware that VMware Workstation Pro 15.5 is out. Would anyone have a clue on when VMware Workstation Pro 16 would be released? I can't decide if I should upgrade to 15.5 now or wait for 16 and then upgrade?

    I believe that you can only upgrade from the last 2 major versions so I know that when/if 16 comes out I would want to pay the upgrade price and not full price.

    Hi there

    @Danielx64

    The next major change in VMWare will be its ability to co-exist with HYPER-V -- if you think that will be important then you will need to upgrade however you can always use the free VMWare player --BUT one never knows with corporations --will the HYPER-V feature be only available in the PAID version --who knows.

    If what you have is working fine and you think you might want to upgrade to the eventual V16 I'd wait -- some though did have problems getting VM's to work with some versions of Windows insider builds and later updates either as VM's or even working at all on a W10 Host using V14 of VMWare.

    So it's over to you. According to the "Whispernet" Rel 16 is likely to be out around Easter time.

    BTW on a Linux Host if you create VM's on KVM/QEMU (free of course as it's built into the Linux kernel) vmware and KVM which is an equivalent HYPERVISOR equivalent to HYPER-V can co-exist arnd run VM's concurrently -- and you can also create a Windows VM which itself can create a secondlevel VM under HYPER-V i.e Linux HOST-->KVM VM Windows 10
    running HYPER-V -->VM on this VM under HYPER V.

    cheers

    Thank you for the detailed reply, when do you think the next version going to be released, and do they do free upgrades for those who brought/upgraded to 15.5 (like a grace period)?

    What I have is working fine, but if I (like I said) don't upgrade often enough I lose upgrade pricing. Would I be correct that when 16 comes out, 14.5 users would still have upgrade pricing?

    Hi there
    That I don't know about -- you'll have to see what VMWare say --you could always drop an email to their Sales dept and express an interest --who knows they might make you an offer or even allow you to be an early "betas tester" -- nothing to lose. They might even say - if you get 15.5 now you will get a free upgrade to V16 when it appears -- all sorts of possibilities.

    I expect it to appear around Easter time --again who knows.

    Cheers

    Well, I just did a search online, and I just found this: https://communities.vmware.com/commu...orkstation-pro. I just asked there so I will see what comes back.

    Is there a direct email address for sales instead of filling out a online form?

    Not sure if this would be helpful, but there is a full list of contact info at the bottom here, and an 800 number at the top.
