    newbie question

If I set up a Windows 10 VM on a Windows 10 Pro system and install Windows 7 Pro on the VM (need to run legacy programs like CorelDraw X4, WordPerfect X4, etc.) , and then network that system to another Windows 10 Pro system, will I have problems with any of the following:

scanner, printer diskdrives, network or transferring files from the Win 7 VM to/from the main OS or to/from and through the network to the other Win 10 system?

    Hi,
Not if you have all the drivers
MS at times blocks some older corel features where newest net framework clashes with them.

If you have the 7 install already
Create a system image with free macrium and turn it into an esd file.
All you need I believe for a virtul machine out of it.

    Hi there
Just install W7 as a VM directly -- you don't need to create a W10 VM first.

I'm running an XP VM running things like minidisc recorders -- works perfectly.

as for networking W7 as is XP are fine to share drives / printers / scanners with other machines --on W10 computers though you have to enable SMB1 (programs and features-->turn windows features on and off).

Don't let XP on the internet though -- it's relatively insecure by todays standards -- sharing files and printers is OK though. W7 should be OK provided you've got some security running.

    Cheers

^Thanks. That sounds like the way to go.

But now my question is: How do you install W7 as a VM directly? Is there an option when you pop the install disc in?
