Running a 64bit VirtualMachine over a PC with no Intel Virtualization?

So yea its a little bit old PC with 64bit Windows 10 Pro , 8 Gigs of DDR3 memory and 3 GHz Dual core processor but does not have Intel Virtualization in bios (I guess it was belt pre that time) .

So my first attempt with this was using Oracle VirtualBox , so apparently it is undocumented but if the system doesn't support Intel's Virtualization it can only work in 32 bit mode .

So any other known platform that can do 64 bit virtual machines without the need of Intel V ?

The other hypervisors are the same. It's not really undocumented, it's been this way forever. You cannot run 64bit guests without having Intel vt-x or AMD-v enabled in your BIOS.

so there arent any virtual machine like systems that would give you a simple command like environment you can use to setup anything?

You CAN run a 64 bit guest VM on a 32 bit HOST (at least if using VMWare workstation / player) and understand that with rare exceptions HOST and Guest on a 32 bit system can only address up to 4GB RAM however much physical RAM is in the system.

Note though of course you will need VMWare 12.0 or lower on the XP host as all later releases of VMWare require it to be installed on a 64 bit Host.

You need to enable the INTEL virtualisation options (or the AMD equivalent) and the CPU itself must be capable of running 64 bit operations.


Some versions of W2K3 server (IMO one of the best windows OS'es ever) can address>4GB RAM but usually 4GB is the limit.

It's actually quite amusing getting a Windows XP 32 bit host to run a W10 x-64 bit Guest VM. !!
The latest build of W10 actually runs OK on an XP host.

Easily done if you respect the RAM limits and don't go bonkers with the apps installed on the W10 guest !!!.

Don't you think I have too much spare time currently -- maybe DOG needs a new walk to local "watering hole". !!!!

What CPU do you have?
Laptops generally have few BIOS options. It is possible that VT-x is permanently enabled with no option to control it.

@ every body , i could swear in the post i did my fair share of search and know that the cpu/bios are pre intel virtualization (hinting its an intel not an amd processor) and even did install virtualbox and it persisted i can only run a 32bit vm , the cpu is 64bit but it does not support intel virtualization from its own specs sheet on intel , so my question was if i would be able to run a 64bit vm on a 64bit installation in the absence of intel virtualization . so if there is no known method then i should rest the case and thank you all , as no , there is no bios update or cpu update that are expected to help .

As "Intel V" and "intel virtualization" do not exactly denote any existing standard (but many similar exist) & intentionally no further hardware info specified, I think your "questions" are of the same rank as Jimbo's "answer". Enjoy your fellowship.

afraid you are out of luck here

It IS actually possible to run a 64 bit Guest VM on a 32 bit host but you do need to have the VT-D / virtual virtualisation setting on and of course the cpu must be able to handle 64 bit instructions. The Virtual RAM also can't exceed 4GB either (actually both physical and virtual RAM won't be addressed > 4GB whatever is installed on the actual hardware).

Note there are some 32 bit OS'es that can go > 4GB for VM addressing -- some versions of (IMO the best OS Ms ever produced -- W2K3 server) can address 64GB RAM even though it's a 32 bit OS.

You can run any 32 bit VM OS though on a cpu without VT-D etc being enabled.
