Linux Mint 19.X not installable on Winows Host with VMWare
Hi folks
seem to be having a bit of trouble with VMWare currently with these VM's
1) Skip ahead - latest Windows build won't run in Bridged Network Mode whether on Linux or Windows Host. Previous Windows builds --OK.
2) On Linux HOSTS Kernels 5.X need a patch and then VMWare tools doesn't install.
3) Linux Mint 19.X won't install on anything I've got (Real or VM-- won't even boot properly from install device).
4) Various VM's give "Display driver" errors when run on kernel 5.x with Linux HOST.
I'm sure I never had as much problems in the past when testing new releases etc -- I'm sure people are trying to "cut costs" and skip a decent testing phase before releasing stuff.
Cheers

I cannot help much except to say the latest Linux mint installed fine for me on real hardware, it did not install off the bat though - I had to try a few times then it just worked.......
Also, I cannot get anything to run on Oracle VM 6 in Win10 1093....VM 6 installs all without a fuss in Win7 - I don't have a clue what is happening.

Hey Jimbo, which desktop environment for Mint are you using (Cinnamon, Mate or XFCE)?
Edit: I'm installing 19.2 with Cinnamon using VirtualBox 6.10 onto my 20GB RAM drive. The install went fine.

Rather than use VMs I use an HD for Linux and unplug the windows drives which makes it much easier to deal with.

And I have Linux Mint 19.1 on a Desktop, Notebook and an 11" 2-in-1. I have been seeing blurbs about changes in using VM but haven't had time to digest most of them but generally it may become more of a problem.

Hi there @pparks1
I was trying CINAMMON -- on a bog standard laptop system just hung as it was trying to start the install display --- I tried also in compatibility mode -- no joy so I gave up.
Laptop bog standard HP envy with bog standard Intel graphics and chipset with i5 cpu.
@Berton as well
BTW with VMWARE have you managed to get it working on any Distro with kernels 5.2.6 or greater. I got 5.2.5 on Fedora 30 to work (with patch from github) but doesn't work in 5.2.6
Cheers

I had difficulties back with Linux Mint 13 and a virtual machine setup but fortunately was given some machines rather than throw them out so I rehabbed a Desktop and later a Notebook to use solely with Linux. Latest is a Dell 11" with a 32GB SSD that got into the mix of Windows update not using plug-in drives so it now works quite well with Linux Mint 19.1. I also use the feature in Mint to create a bootable USB drive which is great for demos or some diagnostics of computers.
