Speed Up VHD Mount - Taskbar Icons Gone

I have an Asus Transformer T100TAF with a 32 GB EMMC hard drive. Not much to work with so I installed a 128GB SanDisk U1 drive that is mounted as a VHD D:\using a Task manager task.

I then changed the Storage settings so all new files go to the D:\ drive and all new app have been installed to the D:\ drive. I also changed the location of all of the primary Windows folders (Douments, Downloads, etc) to D:\Users\[my name]\...

I works really well EXCEPT, when starting I get a message that the D:\ drive is not available. In a minute or so it's available but I then have to open Task Manager and retart Windows Explorer to regain my taskbar icons.

How can I avoid this by accerating the mounting of the VHD or, if that's not possible, how can I structure a Windows Explorer Restart task that would start 2 minutes after booting. I'm also willing to move some functions back to the C:\ drive if it will fix this.

Thanks for reading and for any help offered.

I'm a bit confused but open to new ideas. Why is your drive as a VHD at all? I thought Win 10 gave you the option
as to where Apps are installed anyway?

    Hi thomaseg1,

I need to sync to my Dropbox and the sync client will not work on a removable drive. Creating VHD tricks Dropbox.

Is that true for the other cloud drives as well? Google, one drive, icloud etc?

Another thought.... You probably already reset the power options for the drive.
Can you create a batch file to poll the drive periodically to keep it awake?

I tried that a while back (less than 6 months). Tried to move the sync folder from C to D. Dropbox would not permit it. I will try some alternatives.

As to keeping the drive active, this only happens on booting. After the VHD is loaded it works (after I restart Windows Explorer).

    Thanks for trying.

However, I think it's fixed. I've rebooted 3-4 times and all is well.Seems that if I don't rush the logon process the VHD drive D is loaded and everything works as it should.
