    I can't install W10 1809 in VirtualBox

I'm using VBox 5.2.26, and when I try to create a new VM using a recently downloaded 1809 ISO, I repeatedly get an error after the first few steps. When I tried to clean install from the same ISO in a working VM, I got a series of "Something went wrong OOBE???? Try again/Skip this step" messages. I managed to create an account in the VM, but now there's a "Something went wrong OOBESETTINGS Try again" message with no "Skip this step" option. Clicking "Try again" just leads back to the same message. If I send a virtual Ctrl+Alt+Delete, I can log out, shut down or restart, but when I log in, I just get the same message. Is this likely to be a Windows problem or a VirtualBox problem?

I think it's VirtualBox that's messing with you...

I downloaded the official boot disc iso from microsoft.com and as you can see it installs and runs fine on VMware.
I've been having lots of trouble with Hyper-v in my X58 platform, so finally I gave up on it, disabled Hyper-v and the hypervisor and went with VMware instead. It runs with just virtualization enabled in BIOS and makes life a bit easier I think...

Might me something to consider if you can't get VirtualBox to cooperate...

I have had no problems with Hyper-V. I used the MCT to make an ISO and can confirm that it installs and runs fine in Hyper-V too...

Thanks. I used VMWare 12 for a while, but VirtualBox was easier to set up, and less buggy, although with fewer features. Since it's working more and more badly, I'll try VMWare 15.

Compared to VirtualBox, I actually found it more straight forward to setup the VM's in VMware. I never liked the hardware setup in VB and never got my VM's running quite right... Possible down to my own incompetence, but then I got it working well on VMware in the end, soo....

I first switched from VB to Hyper-V by converting my VB VM's using starwindconverter. Nice tool if you want to switch platforms without starting over from scratch...

The main reason for me not using Hyper-V anymore is the lack of support for running macOS VM's.
Otherwise I would probably stick to Hyper-V. Especially for running Windows VM's. I quite liked the Hypervisor until I ran into the macOS-wall and since you can't run VMware with Hyper-V enabled, unfortunatly it had to go...

VMWare 15 turned out to be quite a bit easier to set up than version 12.

Maybe you need to update to a newer version of VirtualBox?

I just installed Win 10 in VirtualBox 6.0.4 with zero issues. Host OS is also Win 10, guest additions installed, shared clipboard, shared files, desktop resizing all just works. Mouse and keyboard capture is transparent, it behaves like any other app.

The sound is a bit choppy but I have the same issue with audio through RDP so I don't think it's VirtualBox.

I always do the automatic updates. It very rarely helps.

You wrote you used 5.2 so I recommended the upgrade, since 6.0 is the latest. I know 5.2 is supported, but it is not recommended for 64bit hosts.

Gregyurkon, I had the same issue (
"Something went wrong OOBE???? Try again/Skip this step" messages)
with VirtualBox 6.0.4 in a HOST Windows 10 PRO with a Guest Windows 10 PRO 1089 and after trying several times when I entered the Windows license everything worked as expected.

Well, to be honest this is not true, I have also Windows 7 as a guest and over there everything is ok, but in Windows 10 Shared Folders is not working at all even when I can write in the HOST and I haven't been able to run "guest additions" in Windows 10 so I think that I'm going to install the new version that was released today.
