    Trouble enabling Hyper-V


    I have Virtualization Technology enabled in my bios, Windows Hypervisor Platform is enabled in Turn Windows features on and off, and when I type Hyper-V Manager in Windows Search the best match is Hyper-V Manager web results, so I went into Services and every Hyper-V related service is set to Manual (Triggered start). When I try to try to start them manually but click on them an clicking start I get this message" The Hyper V [Service Name] service on local computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs." Even if I change them to start automatically then try starting them I get the same message, I would like to use Hyper-V if possible, so how can I fix this problem?

    Notes:
    This is a clean install of Windows with all available updates
    I'm using Windows 10 Home version 1803 and build 17134.376

    I'm afraid you can't in Home. Hyper-V is only available in Pro. Either upgrade to Pro, or use something like VMware instead.

    Okay and it is kind of stupid for it to even show up in Windows features on and off if I can't even use it.

    No, it is not stupid. You have just misunderstood it.

    In Home edition, you cannot enable / install Hyper-V feature. It is greyed out, not available in Optional Features (#1 in screenshot). However, you can enable / install Hyper-V Management Tools (#2):

    Those Management Tools are required in case you want to connect to and use Hyper-V virtual machines on another Hyper-V host. A Hyper-V host is a computer on your network running Pro, Education or Enterprise edition of Windows 10 where Hyper-V is enabled / installed.

    This can be compared to Remote Desktop. Your W10 Home can act as a Remote Client, a PC that connects to another computer (Remote Host) using remote desktop services. However, as only Pro, Education and Enterprise editions can act as Remote Host, you cannot connect to your W10 Home machine using remote desktop from any other machine.

    Long story, short version: Windows 10 Home edition can be used as Hyper-V client to connect to virtual machines on any Hyper-V host. However, Home edition cannot be used as Hyper-V host.

    Well, it enables virtualization cababilities, on supported hardaware, available on win 10 pro and up, probably expanding the windows 10 kernel.

    While Hyper-V is not available to you, you can run other VMs. AFAIK WMware Workstation Player or Oracle VM VirtualBox both work in Home, though I haven't tried either of them myself so cannot comment.

    Hi there
    on W10 HOME both VMWare player and VBOX (both free) work for creating VM's.

    Before spending money on PRO test out either of those programs to see if they do what you need.
