    WKS 14.1.3 - defect forwarded to VMware

    Hi folks
    For VMware WKS 14.1.3 users (and equivalent VMware player version) I've submitted a defect / bug report to VMware. Hopefully it will be addressed in next update - however as I pointed out the "get around" is simple - start VMware player / workstation in administrator mode before opening the VM so whether they will release a fix just for this problem --who knows.

    Cheers

    Hi there

    @lx07

    problem was if you used complete RAW disks from W10 host the guest (Linux guests - several different distros) would just hang indefinitely at bootup.

    For example create just for a test two hdd's in a RAID 0 array (boot a live Linux distro for this) and format the HDD's as root mkfs.xfs /dev/sdxxx -f for the 2 HDD's (or you don't like xfs try ext4 makes no difference to final outcome).

    start mdadm -- the Linux software raid program and create the RAID arrays.

    now boot back into windows, create a VM normally just with a standard vhd say 30 GB.
    boot up the vm from VMware not in admin mode. VM will boot normally (hopefully).

    Shut it down -- now add the 2 HDD's as physical disks to the VM config,
    power up the VM it will most certainly hang.

    power up again in admin mode ==should work. I.E start VMware WKS or player in admin mode and boot up the VM.

    You don't even need to create a RAID 0 array -- just did this to show HDD's were not defective and writeable.

    Cheers
