    VM

Dell XPS 8300, RAM 6 GB, Win 1803
I have had no success building a VM; I know my ram is low but every time I follow a tutorial I get to a point where the tutorial and my screen differ.
I like to try new things and a VM would do the trick so if the ram is enough for a small machine anyway, coud you please show me a n example of how an easy one is made. I have found the Oracle VM is the easiest for me. Hyper v was very hard. VM Ware cost., I think.
I put a little $ in-PSU and 500 GB hard drive but am reluctant to put any more money in.
An up to sate tutorial so there is no difference with a functional guest would be great, if possible.
The little I know, it seems bidirectional would be a way to exchange information and some machine like Windows,e.x. Zorin would make it ez. I have no idea how to work with sudo etc. Libre Office would give me a chance to practice on it.
Is it possible or should I be looking at a machine with more ram?

VMware 14 (Best!!!!!) is free!! Doesn't answer your other question, but it would run with your 6GB.

Download VMware Workstation Player | VMware

More RAM is always useful, but if you are careful not to allocate too much RAM to the VM it's possible with less than you have. Only the other day (just to see if it was possible) I got a Hyper-V VM to run on a machine with only 2GB RAM.

Every time I try, the drop down does not have Ubuntu 64 only 32. Then of course the machine does not work.

This is because your CPU does not support virtualization, or virtualization features of you CPU are DISABLED in BIOS.
If your CPU does not actually support virtualization you can only use 32 bit install

There was no mention of virtualization in the Bios I did go to programs and features and I enabled virtualization there then Rebooted the VMware still did not work neither did Oracle Oracle was still 32-bit on the drop-down and VMware could not get past allowed apps even though I did allow it so I am now performing a macrium recovery as system restore was also fouled up
I know the computer is capable of a virtual machine because I did create one about 2 years ago.
