Mint is derived from Ubuntu so use Ubuntu 64-bit template & modify settings according your needs.

By default, Mint 19 uses swap file, not partition. And for testing purposes, default disk configuration (as made by installer) which uses single (root) partition is sufficient.
Hi that's fine -- easiest way --however sometimes the default file / partition sizes aren't large enough.
It all depends on what you want to do with the VM - I tend to use Linux VM's for servers etc and usually only use a Windows HOST system for creating / hosting VM's and running Office 2016 on plus a limited amount of Stock trading software.

For learning / testing default config is probably a good idea especially for beginners. One mistake though is not to allow enough RAM for the VM -- give it 1GB and also if you can put the vm virtual disk files on to an SSD performance will be better.

    Cheers

    All points noted, thank you!

This will be interesting as I have never setup Linux under VMware before.

Is this accurate, even though it is a bit dated?

Again, thanks for all the assistance!
