By default, Mint 19 uses swap file, not partition. And for testing purposes, default disk configuration (as made by installer) which uses single (root) partition is sufficient.

Hi that's fine -- easiest way --however sometimes the default file / partition sizes aren't large enough.
It all depends on what you want to do with the VM - I tend to use Linux VM's for servers etc and usually only use a Windows HOST system for creating / hosting VM's and running Office 2016 on plus a limited amount of Stock trading software.

For learning / testing default config is probably a good idea especially for beginners. One mistake though is not to allow enough RAM for the VM -- give it 1GB and also if you can put the vm virtual disk files on to an SSD performance will be better.
