Create a Virtual Switch Hyper-V Re: Are The Tutorials Up To Date?

I created my first VM the other day and frankly I did not quite understand what the virtual switch was all about and did not create one. After the VM was successfully created I quickly shut it down for fear of wrecking it : ) It would seem however that in order to have Internet access I need to go back and create a Virtual Switch and I was wondering if the Hyper-V virtualization - Setup and Use in Windows 10 thread from 2014

Hyper-V virtualization - Setup and Use in Windows 10

on the first page contains info that is applicable to Windows 10 or do I need to follow a different guide. The reason I ask is I came across this link that seems to indicate that there are some problems with Windows 10 ver. 1709 though it does seem to relate to folks who had prior good working switches before updating. TIA.

Tutorial is up to date, especially as I added the following note to it just now:

    Note   Note
Since Windows 10 version 1709, Hyper-V now includes a default virtual switch named simply as Default. Creating your own external virtual switches is no longer required to get Internet connection to virtual machines.

However, to guarantee best networking capabilities between host machine and its virtual machines, it is recommended to create an external switch and use it instead. Using Default switch is totally OK if networking between host and Vm is not required.

Not tested it recently, some of us experienced problems with 1803 whereby the use of a virtual switch impacted download speeds of the host pc. This problem did not arise when using the default switch which does not use a virtual switch i.e. host connects directly to internet.

OK. Thanks. Next time I fire it up I'll see whether or not I have Internet access. Thanks!
