Inching closer to experimenting with a virtual machine using Hyper V and while I have virtualization enabled in the bios the second entry is not. Does intel vt d in the bios need to be enabled as well? TIA.

VTd allows direct access to the hardware from the virtual machine. You do not need it to be enabled, but I don't see any reason why you would want to not enable it.
Turn it on.

I think if you use VMWARE and want to run a 64 bit guest you need to enable it. You don't have to for 32 bit guests

64 bit. Actually I have VMware already installed and have used it a couple of times and VTd had not been enabled in the BIOS so in my case I am not sure if I needed to enable it. External USB's connected just fine and I had Internet access. Perhaps if I had wanted to connect more sophisticated externals to run with the VM I would need to turn it on. In addition since I was installing Hyper-V for the first time I wanted to know whether or not I needed to enable VTd thinking that possibly it needed to be enabled where as using VMware it did not. Never tested it before; Nowadays since VTd is available on laptops, and mostly comes disabled by default, I wonder what hardware will be available to the VM in this case. In best case one of the GPU's if you have multiple, improving the graphics.
