    Windows 2000 sound problem

    Hi,
I'm having a really frustrating sound problem with a Windows 2000 VMware virtual machine. The sound is slow, distorted and crackly. Every time I fire up Win 2000, I have to open a sound file (wav, mp3 etc) in Windows Media Player to fix the sound, but as soon as WMP is closed, it goes back to its slow, distorted self. How can I resolve this problem? I'm using VMware Workstation 14.1.1.

    Hi there

    two solutions

    1) On VMware have you run vmware tools (on the W2000 VM machine)

    2) install the native sound driver on the W2000 machine if you still have it. Then in the VM config for sound set it to use the hardware driver not the virtual sound driver which is -- usually something like soundblaster.

Also ensure volume not set too high on HOST as this can distort the sound on VM settings.

    Cheers

@jimbo45 I have an SB PCI driver. When I install the driver to the VM, do I have to edit the VMX file? If so, how?
