If everyone just follows your instructions "step by step" exactly....
    it works perfectly!!!

I now have 4k Ubuntu in Hyper-VA guide how to run Ubuntu 18.04 in Enhanced Mode in Hyper-V-alien-boogie.gif

That looks really cool. I am glad it worked ok. I had guide working for a pre-release of 18.04 but something changed on release version, and it fell over.

Others on github site had same issue and eventually a user posted a solution (commenting out two lines in install.sh) and I got guide working.

Interestingly, one of the guys there linked to my guide, presumably as it is more upto date than original 16.04 guide -LOL!

I also get that error message (partly hidden in second screen shot) but I dismiss it and nothing seems to be affected.

On W10 1803 Enterprise and 18.04, followed the instructions but now stuck on the login screen for Xorg. Every time I enter in the username/password it disconnects, saying "Video remoting was disconnected". Can't log in at all, I might have to reinstall from scratch to fix. Username and password are correct because when I enter in a wrong one, it tells me.

    shadowx360,
I have the same setup and the same problem as you, ""video disconnected".
    Found a discussion over at:
How do you get this working in Realease 18.04 · Issue #27 · Microsoft/linux-vm-tools · GitHub
Some guy edited his ~/.xsession and got it to work. Didn't work for me, though...

Here is a quick guide how to run ubuntu 18.04 in enhanced mode in Hyper-V.
    1) Install Ubuntu
Download Ubuntu 18.04 iso, and install it in hyper-V as generation 1 vm.
Hi Cereberus - Nice post, I'll give this a go over the weekend. One question though Is it actually required to install as a Gen. 1 VM?

I just said gen 1 as I know it works. Gen 2 may work - may need to turn off secure boot.

Generation is irrelevant to procedure if you can install as gen 2 - try it I guess.

I do not really see much point in installing as gen 2 though.

Yes, true. Not much benefit of Gen 2 vs Gen. 1 - A little problem though with this setup.
I git cloned down the latest linux-vm-tools from MS this morning and ran the install.sh which was under the ubuntu/18.04 folder - this ran fine. But there was no config-user.sh script under 18.04 - the 16.04 folder does have a config-user.sh script however it appears to be for setting up .xsessions for unity.
Any idea on how to create the xsessions file for 18.04 ?

I was able to set the Enhanced Session on Hyper-V however when connecting over xrdp I wasnt able to get a session established.
