    Change Windows Login Name

I'm trying to change my name that displays on my windows login screen (not to be confused with my password). I've searched the web and tried everything I could find but nothing works. And the name was auto populated after initial setup of my new laptop. It' an older name I had used years ago. I'm thinking this name may have been transferred over from a Windows account I had awhile back.

Any help is appreciated. thank you

Are you talking about the name that appears above the login box.

That will either show your username (C:\users\username) if a local account, or your email address unless you have set an alias online in your MS account.

Hello adouble11, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If this is for a Microsoft account, you can use Option 1 in the tutorial below to change the display name on the sign-in screen for your Microsoft account.

    Brink:

I utilized the Microsoft link in Option 1. I was able to change my name. However, I hasn't updated the name on my laptop lock screen. Is there a way to sync? My ultimate goal is to have my name changed on my Skype account. Which reflects the name on my lock screen. Like I said, this was all auto populated.

Did you already do step 5 in option 1 to apply for Windows?

"My ultimate goal is to have my name changed on my Skype account. Which reflects the name on my lock screen."

Apply Step 5 to change the name on your Local account which is appearing on login screen to the name on you MS account profile that you do want to appear.

However, the Skype name is separate from the MS account name if you are using the traditional desktop program. You can change the Skype name to match by opening Skype/Skype tab/My account which takes you to Skype account page. Click your picture/Skype alias/Edit profile on next page/Change name here/Save at page bottom. Good Luck

I did step 5 and it changed my name on the lock screen to the email address associated with my Microsoft acct and not the name on my Microsoft acct.

None of this works for me. I've tried. My Skype acct is synced with my Microsoft acct as well. Research I've done says to unsync it, but I'm not given that option on my Skype account.

In that case, see if turn off showing your email address on the sign-in screen to only show your name may have the updated one show now.

"My Skype acct is synced with my Microsoft acct as well."

Can you post a screenshot of your Skype interface. I am using the traditional desktop program before MS acquire Skype and created a Store App which you launch with the tile. The steps I posted would apply if you created the Skype account yrs. ago and would look like mine below-
