    Can't change Account Picture

So when I set up my Windows 10 today, I chose to login with my Hotmail/Microsoft account.

At some point later I switched to a standalone user account (i did this because apparently the email and your lap top password will get synced and be the same)

But now, I can't for the life of me change the profile picture for my lap top. It retains the same photo I have for my Hotmail account, and all the tutorials online I tried, nothing worked.

    Can anyone help me?

I there. To be sure > Did you try this tutorial? Change Account Picture in Windows 10 User Accounts Tutorials

I sign in with an MS account on all my devices, so I don't know what you have with a local account. Does it look or look similar to this?

    I tried it, of course.

I don't even have the "User Account Pictures" folder.

Anything I try to do I don't have permission. When I take ownership of a folder, it still can't be done.

Eventually I somehow located the old photo, and removed it. It's still there. It cannot be removed.

Then I realize, even though I changed from a Microsoft account to a standalone account, all my folder paths are like - c://users/thefirstfivelettersofmyemailaddress/etc/etc

WHAT? NO! I want it to be - c://users/myusername/etc/etc

Then I find out, that in order to change this, it's more trouble than it's worth, tons of potential problems may happen.

Also, my lap top is a lap top, not a smartphone, screw you Microsoft!

The whole win 10 operating system is a tumor waiting to become malignant on every step and update you take. I can't live like that.

Ok. What prior OS did you have? Did you upgrade from that or clean install? If an upgrade, you can roll back. If a clean install, then redo it the way you like. It really is a great OS.

I've used XP, 7 and 8.1 in the past.

Currently I use 8.1 on my old lap top.

This is a new lap top I purchased, and decided to go with Windows 10.

About 2 years ago I updated my current old lap top from Win 8.1 to Win 10. After a month or so I decided it was junk, and downgraded.

Now I really tried, I wasted the full day on this, and it simply isn't functional. At one point I was also reminded why I left it 2 years ago. My internet would just go offline randomly every few days, and nothing but a restart would get it back on. And no matter what I tried, the problem persisted. And now it did it again, on my new lap top, 2 years later.

Never again, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

And I just know they'll continue shooting themselves in the foot and eventually go the way of Myspace. I will enjoy that. Had they stuck with XP or a slight variations they could've owned the whole planet by now. But nooo, muh updates, muh innovation.

Oh, thanks for replying HippsieGypsie, I appreciate it :)

    @RealJustMe

You're welcome. I can tell you're frustrated from working on it all day without the results you wanted. I've been setting up Speech recognition on a few OSs today where it works great on one, but not the other.

So yes, when an OS is set up with an MS account it uses the first 5 characters of an email address. There isn't any changing it.

You may want to set up another Admin account, then see if it titles that account correctly. If so, then you can delete the original account. Make sure you back up and move files to the new account before doing so.

Well, I'm gonna have to stick with Win 10. I forgot my lap top only supports Win 10.

I'm doing a clean install for the second time today. And hell awaits me at the end of it...

    Okay, recap.

DO NOT use hotmail when logging in
Murder Cortana (literally, gun and find her)
    Remove OneDrive completely.
Disable Defender, and remove from tray.
    Change computer photo
If, probably when, I can't type anywhere - search, calculator, internet explorer - do the patch to make it work again (jesus)
do all updates, hope they don't break anything as they tend to

That's probably just the 1% start. Windows 10 is without mercy.

OHH, I also couldn't see my second hard drive (I have a 126GB SSD and 1TB HHD, and last time I couldn't see the 1TB at all in my computer, was planning on fixing it).

Yeah, yeah, this is gonna be fun, Not.

HippsieGypsy you're great. Doing a bit of balance to my madness now. Thanks so much :)

Okay, here we go. It seems I have to either give my microsoft email, or create one, otherwise I can put my head between my legs and kiss my ass goodbye, and cannot use Windows 10.

    WHY WHY WHY WHY!!?!?!?!?!?!
