    Cannot access my hotmail account

Hello: It looks like I am losing my 20+ years hotmail account. I tried to sign in and I was given a message where it said that I had to verify my password. So as I always I do, I went directly to the hotmail sign in page and tried again. The same thing. So I I tried to verify with a second email. My second email also showed "unusual" activity, so I made a new account and according to MS I don't pass my security questions...which i am sure the are OK. I did this like three time even when I got passcodes everytime. So now I had to go to Texas and I tried the same thing and I was told that the account I am trying to recuperate is going to be closed because of this unusual activity.

There is no way I can get to my MS Forums and ask there how I can sort this out as I don;t want to lose my account, I have had for 25 years or so....

My windows ten email account cannot be verified etc...

I am contemplating do a fresh installation of windows 10 but I don't know what is going to happens since it is registered to the email I cannot access.

    Please help.

    TIA

    Hernan.

Hi Hernan. Welcome to the TenForums @chileno

Try working through these items. At bottom are some additional points. You should be able to contact them. In the past I've been successful following the support protocols.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/12429

I also had this old link, not sure if it still works as it did but it help me with one client. I checked and it takes you to sign in page.

    https://account.live.com/proofs/manage

    Last place I would hit

    account.microsoft.com

Don't be too concerned about those message that say Unusual Activity. It is a canned response. I teach seniors, they get a new account and the following week they get the message. The message should say they want to verify, instead they get them all thinking they been hack.

I've also said I can't verify with these alternatives in which case it takes you down another path. It lets you in and you can change security options. Then for the next 30 days it intermittently flashes you a message saying you've change security option, if this wasn't you hit cancel.

Ken, nothing has been useful and it seems that everything I say is not good, however I have had the account for some 25 years... I received the following:

    "
We recently received a request to recover your Microsoft account XXXXXXXXX@hotmail.com. Unfortunately, our automated system has determined that the information you provided was not sufficient for us to validate your account ownership. Microsoft takes the security and privacy of our customers very seriously, and our commitment to protecting your personal information requires that we take the utmost care in ensuring that you are the account owner.

Please submit a new account verification form"

The account is mine and I cannot talk to anybody that can me "joggle" my memory as I have had to do this twice in the last two years or so, the last time I went through a period of 30 days asking me to confirm my security options or whatever...

If worse comes to worse, then I will lose the account, but my problem is what is going to happen with my windows10 I cannot even update through windows updates! This is so incredible! If I can't recuperate my email account then I should be able to change my administration email account, but when I try to do anything with the account in the settings screen or whatever, I am prompted to input my password of the email I cannot recuperate. I cannot talk to anybody that's even remotely related to MS.

    What's going on with MS?

    Please, help.

    TIA.

Hello again, I forgot to mention that what appears to me incredible is that most of the time I have been asked to furnish a phone number with no other option, when getting these codes in order to recuperate the account. Well, I was able to open an account with hotmail in order to try to get into MS community support etc, and I asked the person with who I am staying here in Texas for her phone number, since I don't have a cell or phone at home. Now none of the ways to be "recognized" is offered to me in the way of a phone number?!

Am I being to paranoid or what?

Thing is I want to be able to chat/talk with somebody from MS that can help me with this. Even if I had a phone, why is it that at one time is phone or nothing and now that I have a phone number available, albeit temporarily as I go home in Nevada in two more Wednesdays, only email is offered to me. I think MS "thinks" it is dealing with a "hacker" or something...

I also forgot to include my system. I had an image from last year, and I restored it, to at least be more or less sure that I had an "unhacked" (clean) system.

Windows 10 version 1511 build 10586.1106 and I was notified that the system is being updated to the latest version of windows 10 (I was able finally to update windows...but if I don't recuperate my email then I need to change my system admin email..)

    Again, please help.

    TIA

    I googled MS. I got the number 1 877 568-2495

If you go to account.micosoft.com and log in I'm understanding it is refusing, correct?

This account is the same Microsoft Account you use to log into your machine, correct? You are now lock out of computer, correct?

Do you have a local admin account on machine? Is there another admin account local or not?

We have this tutorial if you don't to activate the built in Administrator. You want option 5. Once in you could copy you data and even change the the log in to be local rather than MS account.

What kind of laptop, and model number do you have?

I should have added if you are not comfortable doing this you could use the Kyhi's recovery disk to boot windows, copy your data out and then do a clean install.

MS should activate Windows 10 as it "Fingerprinted" your machine.

Good luck with MS, security is important but you should be able to prove to them you are you.

My friend lent me her Iphone, called the number but it says that that it isn't available at this time?

    Correct

[QUOTE=Caledon Ken;1158255]This account is the same Microsoft Account you use to log into your machine, correct?
Correct or so I think. I go to Account under Settings and it says Your info, under that it shows my name, under it the email account in question and under it it says Administrator, below that it say Sign in with a local account instead and if I click on that a prompt appears asking me for my password, the one not being accepted.

No, I am not locked out of my computer, just the email associated with it.

It seems I don't have a local account nor another admin account.

That would be fine but I would like to be able to change the account to another one. Now, if it is better to have this local account with the same attributes of an admin account, I would like to erase that email account from my windows 10.

If I do a clean install from the settings under Update & Security/Recovery/More recovery options/Learn how to start fresh with a clean installation of Windows

Would this be the same as using Kyhi's recovery disk? I have already backed all of my docs and programs. I can start fresh again, whether I recuperate my old email or not. What more i am more than ready to start fresh with no email associated with my copy. I used to be in the Insiders program and that's how I got my copy of Windows 10.

Thank you so much for your help.

Okay if you are able to get into machine that is great but I'm confused.

When you power up or restart are you forced to enter a password? ( Don't do this, just from your experience are you requested for password?)

The id it is signing in with should be right above it. From what you are writing it would appear it is your email address and it is accepting your password. Albeit to your Microsoft account piece and not the email access

So you should be able to switch to local account.

If you are on your machine I would create another local Admin account. Make it local. Should your original sign in stop working this will be your back stop.

Kyhi's recovery disk is an excellent set of tools to Recover with. Rather than trying to explain to someone how to copy their data off a machine with a bad windows installation they can boot and use the tools they are familiar with. There are all kinds of other tools enclosed.

I don't see the need to do a clean install. As long as you create a backup local admin and can sign in with your original credentials.

Concentrate your energies on getting mail access. I assume all the verification and alternate email addresses cause this situation.
