    Users Information

I have a little mystery. I have just had to fully re-install Win 10 following a significant boot error. It now feels like I have two User accounts, both with admin rights.

After the re-instal I signed back in with my normal Google Account and password and was off and running.

However when I look in C:\Users it shows two entries:

    carro
    Public

When I click on carro it shows all the regular folders - - contacts, desktop, documents, down loads etc - which contain all the information and files for my Google Account (which is NOT carro).

When I right click - properties for carro - it shows:
    SYSTEM
    my Google account
    Administrators (desktop- some numbers\Administrators

Control Panel - User Account Items - Manage Changes just shows one - my google account. Click on manage another account only shows my Google account.

Yet if I right click on This pc - Desktop - properties - it shows: Location C:\Users\carro

Any idea what is going on here. Final part of the jigsaw my Google account starts with carro

Both entries in C:\Users are correct and there may be one or two more, I also have Default and Default.Migrated.

Ok thanks, so long as it's not a problem.

Not a problem, just normal behaviour. If you set up the first account as an email address Windows always names the user folder after the first part of the email address.

Ok cheers. Can't quite see why the user name can't be the ACTUAL user name.

I really wonder about loads of aspects of Win 10 - totally illogical and too many enforced items.

I guess the simplest explanation is the User name is tied to the Microsoft Account name used during install. In my case with both an Outlook.com and Hotmail.com account and I used the Outlook.com account when setting up the Win10 computer I got just under a year ago I get an immediate identification of the account used as my account names [first 5 letters] are slightly different between the two. A second Win10 computer I use was set up with the Hotmail.com account so a different User name. I don't see that issue/feature when setting up a computer using a Local Account.

Some who set up using a Microsoft account have issues, particularly when the first 5 letters are... shall we say... an 'unfortunate' combination. We are continually getting posts asking how to rename the User folder after the account had been created and used for a while. Bar some seriously risky registry hacks, you can't.

With a little forward thinking you can use any name you want for the User folder (and local account) - just create a local account during install instead of a Microsoft account. You can than change it to a Microsoft account once you've logged in.

Switch to Microsoft Account in Windows 10

Hmmm food for thought, thanks. It might be drastic but could I re-install Win 10 from the Media Creation USB route and then make a new user name (eg my name) and so start again?

Yes, set up with a local account then link it to the MS account later. If 'carro' really annoys you then better to do it now rather than later. Or (for less work) you could just learn to live with 'carro' - your choice.
