    Added another account, then weirdness

Have a 8.1 laptop that I added an existing W10 MS account to. The computer went thru gyrations similar to all the W10 installs, "HI" adding apps, configuring, etc and then made me verify who I am etc. The background I have on my W10 desktop machine now appears on the W8.1 laptop machine. Still investigating what apps were added. Will remove it after a while as it eats up a lot of my HD space.

I'm sorry, what weirdness are you talking about? All that you mentioned is expected, and standard. It's the same thing you go through when you first install Windows 8.x and create a new account.

I think he's saying his Win 10 account was synced to the same account on his Win 8.1 system. At least that's how I read it.

You are right, why did it sync to W10 when I also have a W8.1 desktop with same account credentials, different desktop background.

(Mys....just seems to have a hard time understanding, like others who have asked him to quit responding to their posts because of his nonsense. )

It does sync between 10 and 8.1 on same account, it has good and bad sides to it, I kept it like that for a while but now I stopped it.

Your MS account holds the sync'd data - Win8.1 and Win10 are seen as devices - you use the same MS account for both Wins - it works as advertised.

I think there should be more control over syncing, there are settings, but that's after the fact.

A simple dialog asking if you want to sync settings would be nice.
There might be one, but I don't recall seeing it at install time.

Not tried latest builds so unsure if things have change, but there used to be an option during install

Would you like to sync settings with 'list of other devices'
    or
Set this device as a new machine

Settings > Accounts >Sync your settings, you can turn off or customize what to sync.

Thanks Mike, that's what I meant by you can turn things off, but it's after the fact. Every sync option is on by default when you install. By the time I think of it, I've already signed into OneDrive and sync happens - I can turn off sync options, but it has already been sunk (sync'd???)

Yes it sunk (sic) and I'm grateful some of that stuff did, like setting about receiving updates, I can still chose to not let updates go thru until I decide. In mean time, I started using different themes on 8.1 and 10 so I don't want that to sync any more.
