Thank you @tracit99 - this still works on the latest version of 1809.

I found this most useful because I use the same picture for my lock screen and desktop background and was tired of seeing the silly Microsoft Logo account "Ց" symbol in a circle on my lock screen.

The transparent image and registry hack did the trick.

    Thanks again!

You would not believe how hard it was to find a solution; then again, you are the one that did the footwork to find the guys website so you could share it here.

I just wanted to let you know that it is working on the Home Editions of Windows also.

This was working fine until I did a reset a few days ago but now I can't get it to work. Tried multiple times, but just keep getting the hero logo.

    I'm on version 1809 Pro, build 17763.379.

    Any ideas ?

    Hello @OldGuyFromCdn

In my experience after doing a reset or upgrading to a new build (not cumulative update) or running sfc, you will need to go and replace User-192.png again. This file gets replaced with the default User-192.png. I hope this helps.

Don't know what I was doing wrong yesterday but it worked first time today !

Thank you tracit99, your help was greatly appreciated.

And kudos to everyone here. Although I haven't asked for help directly in a very long time I've been using the sight since Windows 7 days (great advice and tutorials) and have recommended it to many people over the years.

I'm kind of working on the same thing however on VDI and trying to setup a default image to be used as Account picture for all users. WE want to use company logo for that however what I'm seeing is that I have replaced all images in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures with the respective variety of our logos. I have followed the sizing and replaced all of them including the user-32, user-40, user-48, user-192

What I'm seeing is that when I do that and have user logon I see the logo at the logon screen, however once user is logged in and locks the computer they see the default microsoft person icon .

    Can you please advise?

Edit: I would like to give credit to Gary Blok the person that helped me find this solution. GARYTOWN ConfigMgr Blog – Sponsored by RecastSoftware.com It took me a while to find his name and website again.

The method that I use does not remove the user account picture. Instead I use a transparent image and force Windows 10 to use that image. The end results is the appearance of no user account picture. This method works if you have not set an user account picture in Windows 10. I am not sure what will happen if you have all ready set an user account picture or if you automatically sync settings.

Change Default Account Picture in Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials

Go to %ProgramData%\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\ find and rename User-192.png to User-192.old.
From my Google Drive download and copy the User-192.png file (transparent although it will appear as a black square) to %ProgramData%\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\.
Thanks Michael T, today I finally got tired of seeing my user pic on the lock screen and was able to correct that with only a slight modification to your directions. It still works on the current updated vers 1809. I first tried replacing User-192.png with your substitute, no joy, and finally had success after replacing User.png instead. The same as Ten Forward indicated below.

I know this is an older thread, but I believe I have some helpful info to share.

I would like to thank Tracit99 for the clear instructions! I'm running 1809 (build 17763.55*) and it still works.

However, I had to replace user.png and not user-192.png! I wonder if this has to do with screen size and resolution and perhaps DPI settings?

Since the original file linked to in Tracit99's post is no longer there, I've also attached my transparent user.png replacement.

Thanks for your updated info, it helped fix my PC today.

I realize that this is an ancient post and you likely have solved it, however, if not; have you also attempted to replace the User.png file as Ten Forward and myself have? Until I had completed this replacement I still had a grey circled user symbol on the lock screen. Now it is not showing anything but the picture.
