Command Prompt at login screen - Open in Windows 10

    Hello,

I am using windows 10 but I forgot my login password. I need to open the Command Prompt but I don't have any bootable file to repair. Is there any key/short key that will open Command Prompt when my pc is locked and without repairing from boot. Like - f2, win+shift+print screen?

I saw some youtube videos and all of those used windows 10 file to bring cmd.exe. I heard, there might have any key to open cmd.exe while starting pc like windows 7.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best,
    Rinko.

    Welcome to TenForums @Rinko
If you don't have a recovery drive or install media to boot from you can get to a Command Prompt by forcing the system to boot to Recovery Mode. See Option Six in this Tutorial.

You may need to enable the built-in Administrator account in order to use that to reset your password (by default Administrator has no password). See Option Four here.

Hold down the shift key (don't let go) and restart. It will come up in all the recovery options.

This is true, but the recovery environment that gets booted is the one from the OS partition. You will then get asked to choose an account and provide a password before you can get to the command prompt or other recovery options (try it and see).

To get in without being asked for a password you need to boot from another OS besides the one you want to repair. A bootable recovery drive is the normal one to choose, but without a USB to boot from you can force it to boot from its own Recovery Partition with Option Six from the tutorial I linked to earlier. You will then probably have to enable the built-in Administrator in order to reset the forgotten password.
